2007

2007 was the first major turning point in IGNO history - a revival that took what was a dying failure of an anime-community-turned-high-school-time-waster and revitalized it into something that's...difficult to describe.

After high school graduation, a lot of the older members moved on with their lives, and the forum began to fade into inactivity. This was a good opportunity to sort of wipe the slate clean of the sorry state the end of 2006 had left it in, and before long SG2's new college friends took the place of the high school friends who'd left. The result was a huge boom in activity in 2007, with new members and a lot of new activity, which is why this particular year spawned so many memorable topics.

The seeds of our roleplaying aspects also took root in this period, with topics like IGNO THE FIGHTING GAME and TASTE THE RAINBOW responsible for elements of our current lore. But perhaps the biggest difference between 2007 IGNO compared to the previous two years was the new habit of 'spreeing' - the act of a single user responding to a large number of active topics within a short amount of time (IE, going on a 'posting spree'). The amount of activity generated from having, on average, 4-5 active users spreeing on the board at a single time, multiple times a day, was enormous for what had always been such a small community. The result of this style of posting formed in 2007 could best be described as 'structured chaos'.

When activity dipped in the following year, 2007 was looked back on fondly as a sort of IGNO ideal for its high level of activity and memorable topics. Looking back on it almost 10 years later, it's difficult to look past the 'cringe factor' that was a product of its time, though it still strongly represents the spirit of what has always made IGNO so great - a bunch of friends just going all out and having fun, then somehow assembling the resulting seemingly-random nonsense into cohesive worldbuilding and lore.
