Karma had been absent for a while, and so her character was written off as having gone on a journey of self-discovery for an indefinite amount of time. Since her role as Kaiser was so significant in-universe, we needed a way around that…the plan being to install her familiar, Reese, in her stead as Interim Kaiser until she returned. The basic events of the 5th Christmas Story had already been planned out, and this thread was intended to set up the conflict that would become central to it.
The problem was twofold: New England had experienced a crippling ice storm in December, resulting in lengthy power outages. Power at my house was out for two weeks (though I spent most of the second at my aunt’s house), plus the storm coincided with the tail end of semester finals so even when I did get internet access I couldn’t really spend my time writing the Christmas Story. Power only fully came back just before Christmas, so by the time I could have written the story the season was already over and the story ended up being canceled. The second problem was that the winter of 2008 seemed to be intent on causing various real life problems for most of the active IGNOites, Reese included – which meant less time and motivation to come around and post in silly IGNO topics. Once these situations finally sorted themselves out, Karma had come back again, and things were left in a vague and unclear state until Bones finally seized control and became the de facto ruler of IGNOLand a few months later.
The bottom line is: the topic tanked because we had a whole storyline planned out to go with it, but due to a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances that story never really came to be, and there wasn’t much left to discuss. If not for the fact that I’m scraping the bottom of the ZB 2008 barrel, I probably wouldn’t even bother transcribing this one in the first place.
Mr. Bones: Due to the extended absence of mein kaiser, the wonderful Karma, we have no choice but to appoint her right hand man and minion Russell to the position of interim leader. we cannot function without a leader and as her right hand man he is rightfully next in line as leader. I think it is in all of our thoughts to wish you good luck russell. We all truly hope that you are an effective leader in mein kaiser's absence. My we prosper in your command. end of line
